Virtual Reality Therapy

Dr. Laoudi has experience treating patients using virtual reality therapy. This unique and highly effective therapeutic technique is proven to deliver rapid, lasting improvements in the treatment of anxiety, compulsions, addictions, phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Realistic Virtual Environments

VR environments are built with real-world footage, allowing patients to experience authentic exposures and feel true “presence” in genuine conditions.

FIND OUT MORE
Virtual reality therapy (VRT), also known as virtual reality immersion therapy (VRIT), simulation for therapy (SFT), virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET), and computerised CBT (CCBT), is the use of virtual reality technology for treating a variety of fears, phobias and anxiety disorders including fear of heights, elevators, thunderstorms, public speaking, flying as well as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Traditionally, psychologists have treated such conditions by helping patients imagine they are facing a fear, mentally creating a situation where they can address their anxieties. Virtual reality takes this a step further since, unlike treatments built solely on imagination, this approach enables patients to truly face their traumas. Patients receiving virtual reality therapy navigate through digitally created environments and complete specially designed tasks often tailored to treat a specific ailment. The experience is guided by a therapist who can interact with them throughout the therapy.

Research supports the effectiveness of virtual reality exposure therapy and it is generally accepted by patients. A meta-analysis conducted in 2015 concluded that the benefits carry over to real life, and that virtual reality therapy leads to significant behaviour change in real-life situations.

Controlled Exposure so that Patients Feel Safe

Virtual Reality helps patients face their anxieties in more safe and controlled ways than they otherwise could.

Faster and Highly Effective Treatment

Requires much less time than in-person exposure therapy and 90% of patients conquer their anxieties.

Adjustable Scenarios that Improve Results

The therapist simulates various aspects of the trauma through adjustable and repeatable scenarios.

Virtual Reality, used in conjunction with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, has been proven highly effective in treating fears, phobias and anxiety disorders. CBT is evidence-based, which means that it has been proven to work quickly and with lasting effects.

CBT is a collaborative process and its effectiveness can be enhanced with Virtual Reality. Together we work towards resolving your issues in a safe and confidential environment, making you happier at home, professionally and in your social life.

I offer individual face-to-face Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy sessions in my private practice in West London (Fulham), on the telephone and on Skype. If we decide to use Virtual Reality during treatment, this can only happen in person.
